Billing
itself “The Best Little Beach Town in America” the
Town of Caswell Beach occupies the easternmost four miles of
the island it shares with the neighboring Town of Oak Island.
And, as this municipal moniker suggests, this unique beach town
is a source of immense pride for its estimated 375 year-round
residents.
The beach strand at Caswell Beach is wide and inviting for use
by sunbathers in summer and by net fishermen and shell collectors
in the off-season. The town has made a solid commitment to public
beach access, developing a number of public access points along
the strand and a substantial parking area near the town’s
midpoint.
Caswell Beach is also home to Coast Guard Station Oak Island
and the Oak Island Lighthouse. When recently federal officials
chose to abandon the stately lighthouse, the Town of Caswell
Beach stepped-in to take ownership. Friends of the Oak Island
Lighthouse is an organization that has formed to raise funds
for lighthouse upkeep. Public tours of the Oak Island Lighthouse
are available.
Founded
in 1975, the Town of Caswell Beach early-on made a commitment
to offering a variety of housing styles. Large single-family
homes line the beachfront, many of them available for vacation
rental. The Arboretum, set in the lush woods bordering the Oak
Island Golf Course and the Elizabeth River Marsh, is a beautiful
community of single family homes, mostly owned by year-round
residents. Oak Island Beach Villas, Caswell Dunes, OceanGreens
and The Dunes are multi-family communities featuring condominium
and townhome living options.
Caswell Beach offers coastal living at its best. Whether you
are looking for a permanent year-round home, a vacation get-away,
or an investment property, you will find it here at “The
Best Little Beach Town in America.”
